PUBLIC LECTURE ON

EL DIA DE LOS MUERTOS

Bobbitt Auditorium

October 25th, 1:00pm

Featuring Sonya and Rudolph Alvarado, coauthors of Mexicans and Mexican Americans in Michigan. Rudolph Alvarado is the CEO and publisher of Caballo Press of Ann Arbor. He is author of the award-winning bilingual children’s book Perla Garcia and the Mystery of La Llorona, The Weeping Woman (copies of which will be provided free-of-charge at the lecture). Sonya Alvarado is a staff representative for the  American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Michigan and a lecturer in the Department of English, Language, and Literature at Eastern Michigan University. OFRENDA EXHIBIT

Upper Baldwin

October 31st - November 3rd

Individuals and organizations are invited to publicly present their own ofrendas to honor deceased loved ones, to recognize historically significant figures, or to raise awareness about a particular social issue.  

 

THRILLER PERFOMANCE

Albion College Quadrangle

October 31, 6:30 PM

(end of Spooktacular) 

A live performance of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" featuring giant puppets (mojigangas) and involving residents of the greater Albion community. The show will open with a zombie-themed acapella number from the Briton singers. Then, our Thriller dancers will saunter onto the green, where they will perform for the remaining trick-or-treaters.

OFRENDA WORKSHOP

Umbrella House

October 25, 3:00 pm 

Join us at the Umbrella House (1107 E. Cass St.)  following the public lecture to learn more about what the ofrenda is and how to make your own. If you want to make an ofrenda but can't attend the workshop, contact us and check out our ofrenda how-to guide below. 

 

 

 

 

THRILLER REHEARSALS

There are still TWO REHEARSALS LEFT! Come learn the choreography to Michael Jackson's Trhiller measure-by measure. It' only takes one hour.

  • Tuesday October 20, 7 PM, the Herrick Theatre in the Dow Complex @ Albion College

  • Thursday October 22, 5 PM, Kellogg Center @ Albion College, 2nd floor

 

THRILLER RUN-THROUGH

The Quad

October 29, 5:00pm

Forgot the choreography? Don't worry, you're not alone. We will have an OPTIONAL 30-minute run-through. Meeting on the steps of Kresge gym, we will  review the choreography, and go over call times, cues, and entrances.

The Albion College Department of Theatre is having an open sale of extra costume pieces to help participants zombify their look for the Thriller performance. Articles are priced from $1- $5. Free make-up kits will be provided while supplies last!
